Known as ‘The Queen of Less’, Jil Sander’s take on clean-lined aesthetics is what has kept the brand relevant for so long. She founded the brand in 1968 in Hamburg at the age of only 24, a year after opening her multi-label boutique that sold Mugler, Rykiel and others along with her own designs. Despite an unsuccessful first fashion show in 1975, her refined interpretation of minimalism ultimately grew to fame by the late 1980s and into the 1990s.

Throughout the years, the collections have remained pure and simple, staying true to the minimalist but approach to life, and resulting in timeless and flexible designs that are popular on the secondhand luxury fashion marketplace. Jil Sander is helmed by a husband and wife designer team, but still overseen by Jil Sander herself.
